Paris mon amour – Win a Parisian-style jewellery set

The summer holidays are finally here, and we’re longing to get away. We don’t fancy get sunburnt on a beach! We want to experience something. Culture, parties, eating out, shopping. And why do you need to travel so far away when there are some great opportunities on the doorstep? City breaks are relatively inexpensive and can be organised at short notice. Grab your best friend, book a last-minute flight  and find a stylish hostel. And then you’ll be off to …? Every few weeks, our blog will be providing you with a little travel tip and offering you the chance to win a jewellery set to go with your city break. Our travels start in the fashion capital of Paris! This is the city that is home to the most famous fashion creators, young designers and models. Paris is also where many of the great labels are based and where the world’s creators of fashion come together. The city of  also provides us with new inspirations each season. Bracelets with romantic blossoms, mini Eiffel Towers for the ears, bead necklaces of all lengths, little heart pendants, clutches and handbags in cream and rose pink – you’ll find a little bit of Parisian charm in all our stores and also in our online shop, of course. But with a bit of luck, you could also win one of three jewellery sets (bead necklace, ring, bracelet, handbag) or one of 20 little consolidation prizes. What do you have to do to win? Tell us, in the comments box under this post, what you particularly like about Paris! Have you been there already? We’re dying to know what your favourite hotspots are, far away from the Eiffel Tower, the Louvre and the Arc de Triomphe! We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you!  Terms and Conditions

Leo (23 July – 23 August)

No matter where she is, the Leo knows exactly how to wrap everyone around her little finger with her charming smile. Born under a fire sign, Leos always look to the future and are almost invariably up for an adventure. Leos like to have a good time – it’s no surprise to anyone that this is the star sign, more than any other, that’s often found in the world of glitz and glamour. Naturally, dazzling gold is the Leo’s metal. Perhaps that’s why the golden Oscar sits so well in the hands of celebrity Leo and Hunger Games actress Jennifer Lawrence… The amber chain brings together everything that Leos love. Made from high-quality 925 silver with rose gold gilding, the chain and pendant are elegantly stylish and show off the reddish brown amber perfectly. The naturally grained amber intensifies the creativity of Leos and strengthens their confidence. The oriental design of the pendant, which is mirrored in the matching amber earrings and amber bracelet, emphasises the adventurous streak in every Leo and adds a touch of refinement to any outfit.

DIY: Music for your eyes

There are lots of reasons why it’s worth trying out today’s DIY tip! Isn’t it about time that you went for a long stroll around the flea market and checked out all those countless boxes of records? Maybe you’ll find a rarity or two for your turntable amongst all those hits of the 70s. We feel we must point out here that there is a risk that you could accidently steal an LP belonging to a real music fan. This could seriously damage your health and represent a danger to life and limb.  Another good reason: you’ll finally be able to sort out your jewellery collection! You can fix your treasures neatly and tidily onto the suspended record, so you can see all your drop earrings, clips and studs at a glance. And the most important reason? It looks pretty stylish!  You’ll need:  Record (please note the health warning given above)  Safety pin  Candle  Ribbon or cord  Adhesive tape Step by step to your vinyl display: You can create your new jewellery storage unit in two easy steps: If you want to be really precise, mark the position of the holes on the record first using the sticky tape. Now unbend the safety pin and heat it up carefully over the candle for about 15 seconds. Now you can start: pierce the vinyl with the safety pin. You’ll see – when the safety pin is hot enough, it’s really easy. You’ll need to heat the safety pin up again before making each hole. It’s a good idea to check how many earrings you want to attach and which ones, otherwise they may partly overlap. Finally, you’ll need two more holes to hang up the record. If the openings are not large enough to take the cord, you can also make them bigger using a pair of scissors or similar. Now fix the cord or ribbon in place with two knots on the back, and your new earring storage unit is finished! We hope you have lots of fun creating it!

Model-Interview: Brooke Hogan

At the end of June we had some great and successful photo shooting days for our new Autumn/Winter campaign 2015/16. It is quite strange to think of Christmas and New Year’s Eve while enjoying summer temperatures of 30 degrees. However, the new pieces of jewellery and accessories are simply gorgeous and have caused excited anticipation of what is to come.  We spent day one of the photo shoot with our sweet model Brooke Hogan. The 21-year-old came over from London solely for us and we fell in love with her in no time.   And we are not alone: Brooke has won second place in the “Miss World Australia” competition and finished twelfth in the show “Australia’s Next Top Model”. A Melbourne native, she has travelled the world and has appeared on several covers. That’s why we wanted to know more about Brooke and asked her to our little “either/or” interview. But read for yourselves!  Either/or? Instagram or Facebook? Instagram! My favorite channel is @abikiniaday  Beach or mountains? Beach  Coffee or tea? Coffee London or Australia? Instagram Favourites June

Time’s run away with us… Have we really gone past the end of June? Once again, it’s time to take stock and to check out which items of jewellery and which pictures you liked best on our Instagram channel over the last month. As always, you let us have plenty of comments and likes  We really love thinking about where and how we can take shots of our little treasures for you, and we’re massively delighted that you’re pleased with the results. Thanks! Your undisputed favourite in June was the cakepop picture – taken at our Press Day at the beginning of the month. And yes, they tasted as good as they looked. Stupidly, we promised “cupcakes” in our posting text.  Cakepops, cupcakes, popcakes – it’s easy to get muddled up …   Luckily, you put it right straight away!  Second place went to this stylish statement piece with the appropriate name of Shining Light – a slightly shorter necklace in antique gold with facetted stones in shades of nude plus salmon-coloured maxi-stones. The absolute highlights here are the tiny rhinestone decorations. This short gemstone necklace also appealed to our little office flamingo, who then managed to creep onto the photo with it  Would you like one too? But this pair of earrings is enchanting too! So much so that we’re showing it you for the second time. A must-have for this summer! Would you like to see more, give out hearts and add your comments? Just follow us on Instagram @bijoubrigitte

Cancer (22 June – 23 July)

Sensitive Cancerians not only make really good friends – they’re also in good company. The enchantingly beautiful Gisele Bündchen celebrates her birthday under this water sign. The Cancerian’s metal is silver-coloured, which is what Tom Brady naturally went for when he selected her magnificent wedding ring. Gisele and the other Cancerians will find it especially easy to choose other accessories this season. Subtle pastel shades such as delicate green and light pink not only go brilliantly with your star sign – they’re also bang on trend! Every detail is important to choosy Cancerians, and so they’ll find this romantic necklace particularly enchanting. The rose quartz, the stone of love, glows with all its natural power and intensifies the sensitivity of Cancerians. The nostalgic antique gold colour of the chain and setting give this item of jewellery a unique vintage look that’s bound to attract every glance. The simple design and the soft pink with its delicate graining will round off your casual summer look of jeans and a top, but can also add an elegant accent to the LBD.

DIY: Golden pineapple for your wall

Last week, we promised to bring you another little DIY article! Here it is!  The pineapple template is not just ideal for adding our favourite fruit to t-shirts – it’s just as easy to create a stylish picture for the wall with the simplest of tools. To give as a present, or keep for yourself, or maybe both?  All you need is our pineapple template, a picture frame, a piece of firm paper, a sharp knife and the spray paint of your choice. Click on the pineapple and you’ll get the pineapple:  And off we go: First you need to download the template and print it onto A4 paper.  Then using the sharp knife, carefully cut along the contours. You’ll need to be patient here – maybe your favourite music might help a bit!?  Once the template is finally finished, you can place it onto the firmer piece of paper – it’s a good idea to fix it in place with some sticky tape to stop it slipping. And then it’s time to get down to business. Fling open all the windows, maybe put on an old t-shirt and spread out some newspaper to protect your working surface. Then start to spray from a distance of about 20 cm. Now carefully remove the template and leave the picture to dry well before framing it. Important: You need to find a nice, sunny spot in your home for your pineapple! In our house, we’ve found a lovely little spot on the jewellery chest. Have fun copying our idea!

Create your Tropical Style!

Can a fruit be bang on trend! Of course! The pineapple has been more than just something to eat for ages – it’s used for decoration, as a motif for posters, bedlinen, mobile phone cases and much more. Naturally, the trend hasn’t passed Bijou Brigitte by either, and so you’ll find it, for example, as a pendant on necklaces and bracelets.  The pineapple has been our most loyal companion for days and has had to serve as a photo model for a few shoots – and now it’s part of a great DIY project for you. With a little patience and a few simple resources, you can create your next favourite top and turn every head at the next summer party! Click on the pineapple and you’ll get the pineapple:  Step by step to your favourite top Gather together the following items: a loosely fitting t-shirt (ideally in white) A4 adhesive film the pineapple template, printed out two little sponges (e.g. washing up sponges) tracing paper Fabric paint Sharp knife Pencil Cutting base Instructions: First download the pineapple and print it onto A4. Using the tracing paper, transfer the pineapple to the adhesive film. Now you need to have a bit of patience! Cutting out the contours of the pineapple is a bit fiddly, but just think how great the result will be at the end of it! Now comes the part that’s most fun: Painting the top! Firstly, pull the t-shirt across a piece of cardboard until it’s taut. Now pull the pineapple slowly off the film and place it on the t-shirt. Now you can gradually apply the paint. Let your imagination run wild when you choose the colours!  Once the complete design has been painted, loosen the film and carefully remove it from the top. Now you just need to leave it to dry! Check the instructions provided by the fabric paint manufacturers for washing the top. We had to iron our pineapple top briefly inside out first, and now we can happily wash it on 40°C. And we can wear it again and again and again. We hope you have lots of fun doing the same. The second of our DIY ideas will be here for you next week!
